After my last post:
Star Wars Agents of Chaos: Hero's Trial - not bad. Very interesting story.

Forest Mage, Robin Hobb (Book 2 of the Soldier Son Trilogy). - Really good, but the ending wasn't as good as it could have been. Such is usually the case with trilogy middles.

The Name of the Wind, Patrick Rothfuss. Good book. The ending was lame. Oh well. just gotta wait for book 2 of the Kingkiller Chronicle.

Next up:
Renegade's Magic, Robin Hobb (Book 3 of Soldier Son Trilogy)
Assassin's Apprentice, Robin Hobb (Book 1 of the Farseer Trilogy).
Faith of the Fallen, Terry Goodking (book 6 of Sword of Truth)

I read the first 5. Good books. I want to read the last one, Crystal City, but I'd have to read the others again to refresh my memory.

Reread The Road in preparation for the movie.

I forgot how emotional of a book it was, even though I felt McCarthy manipulated emotions a bit at the end (those who have read will understand).

I've read it twice, and not sure what you mean exactly. Please explain. Just hide the font color or something so people who don't want spoilers won't get any without some effort.

Also, I can't wait much longer for this film. It's been annoying enough having to wait this long.

SPOILER!!!!! DO NOT READ BELOW THIS LINE!!! SPOILER!!!!

I think at the end when the father dies, it was made to make you feel sad. The book was specifically made with no references to emotion. I think he was portraying the baseness of humanism - survive. When other deaths occured, it was almost with passing indifference. However, the father dies, and instead of "life taking its course," it turned into a long, drawn out ordeal. If the book was based around the basic need for humans to survive, with death being commonplace, shouldn't the father's death have been met with the same almost cruel blunt bitter and emotionless detail of the death? I think that would have made for a better ending. But that's just me nitpicking.

END OF SPOILERS!!!!!!!

Right now I'm currently reading Kaplan's "Michigan Life and Health Examination" book to start getting my certifications for financial planning. Dry as a freaking bone.

I see what you mean, but I disagree for a couple of reasons.

SPOILER!!!!! DO NOT READ BELOW THIS LINE!!! SPOILER!!!!

First, I don't think the mother's death was written without emotion. Technically, it is in flash back, but the death is still different than the others in the book even though death had already become common place for the family. Secondly, and more importantly, I think the father's death should be different because he was one of the only "good guys" left in the book. I think that was the term the two used. So, when one of the good guys died, it had to be set apart from the rest for the boy. He was alone at that point.

This discussion actually reminds me of No Country For Old Men too, but in opposite fashion. When Moss died it was so abrupt as to set it completely apart from the other deaths in the book. I think the same basic rule applies with The Road. The fact that the death is different makes it quite clear for the reader that the death was more important than the others.

END OF SPOILERS!!!!!!!

I think I'm going to read Lord of the Rings again. I haven't read it in a while, and I'm planning on taking a class on it next semester.
