Teaching Art?

Postby whachamacallit on Mon Dec 14, 2009 2:52 pm

So uh....I'm a music/art teacher from now until the rest of the school year....here's my issue...I'm not an artist...I don't draw...I doodle and goof around, but it never amounts to much....I'm also supposed to teach music. LOL! I feel like such a hypocrite some days.....anyone have any fun projects or ideas of what they've done in the past that were just awesome? :-)

Give me a holla with any ideas...that would be just great! :-D

You know, I don't know much about Art either... and I would feel more comfortable teaching Music than art... are you teaching elementary or secondary?
I have a few things that may work for you. One thing that works well in art when you don't quite know what you're doing is to find examples in the "real world" for the students to mimic. While doing my student teaching, one of my friends had to do a lesson on perspective for second graders. Not knowing how to explain it, I told her "just have them compare the size of a tree they are standing next to to that of a tree on the hill. Ask which one is bigger... and ask which one LOOKS bigger." She didn't have to actually drawn an example for the students. She then just let the students draw something using perspective.
Anyway, send me a PM and I'll see what I can do. It may take me a day to reply, but I'd love to help. (my area of exerperience is in elementary ed, fyi)
